Horses have a naturally lower and steadier heart rate than we do. When we stand close to them or touch them, our bodies start to follow their lead. It is not something you have to think about. It just happens.
This is called heart rate synchronization. A horse’s heart creates an electromagnetic field larger than our own. That field is strong enough to directly influence our own heart rhythm, slowing it down and bringing our nervous system back to a calmer place.
Less stress. Lower blood pressure. Quieter anxiety. So if you have ever walked up to a horse and felt something shift inside you, that feeling is real. Your body was responding to theirs.
This is one of the reasons equine-assisted therapy works so well for veterans and families at Little Blessings. The healing begins before a single word is spoken.
