Memorial Day Remembrance: Kevin H. Sonnenberg (Sonny)

Today is a day of remembering those American hero’s who selfless gave their lives protecting our freedom.
This hero is Kevin H. Sonnenberg aka call sign Sonny
On June 15th 2007 Kevin lost his life when his F-16 crashed just 5 mile north of Balad Air Base, Iraq. Kevin will always be remembered as a pilot, farmer and great friend. Kevin served at the 180th Fighter Wing in Toledo Ohio attached to the 112th Fighter Squadron. He also was a commercial airline pilot who flew for Delta. In addition to flying, Kevin was a Henry County farmer.
Jamie Paxton had the privilege of serving with Kevin for many years. “Kevin was like a brother to me and always looked out for me”, she tells us all of the time.
The ranch has the privilege of owning a horse named Sonny. When Sonny arrived at the ranch he had a different name. Jamie called his wife Lorin and asked if she could name him after Kevin. Without hesitation, she said yes. Even though this hero lost his life, his legacy of taking care for people lives on. Sonny is part of the equine assisted therapy program serving Veterans and their families.
Our thoughts and prayers go our to all of his family and friends today.
Thank you Kevin for your service and dedication to our county.
Please take a minute and visit The Sonny Smiles Foundation and see all of the great things Kevin continues to do.
