You traditionally mount a horse from the horse’s left side. The reason is because back when riders carried swords the sword would be worn on the left side because everyone was right handed back then. When wearing your sword on the left and mounting the horse from it’s left side made it easier without worrying about moving your gear or injuring your horse.
